Katleen Penel
Katleen Penel is a global hospitality entrepreneur, keynote speaker, and founder of The Glory of Excellence, a high-end network for culinary professionals and Michelin-starred talent. A lifelong champion of hospitality as both a craft and a calling, Katleen is now using her voice to reframe how we value service, professionalism, and discipline in one of the world’s most overlooked yet vital industries.
Born into a family of hoteliers in Belgium, Katleen was raised behind the bar of her grandmother’s café and trained in her family’s hotel, developing what she calls the “military discipline” of true hospitality. She became Belgium’s first female Maître d’Hôtel before rising through the ranks as an HR specialist, hotel consultant, and educator. Her background includes two decades of frontline hospitality leadership, executive HR experience across 15 companies, and 18 years as a hotel school lecturer.
In 2019, Katleen brought her signature blend of rigour and warmth to Dubai, where she now champions a new vision for hospitality in a city defined by ambition and transformation. She is a firm believer that great service is built on structure, leadership, and a willingness to go the extra mile, and that these values must be mirrored by customers as much as staff.
At The Glory of Excellence, Katleen and her daughter Petra cultivate a community of excellence. They mentor chefs, run immersive culinary events for elite entrepreneurs, and provide coaching, consulting, and masterclasses across the hospitality spectrum. Through her podcast, Katleen shares stories and insights from global hospitality leaders, redefining luxury not as opulence, but as precision, poise, and presence.
