Ali Faramawy is a senior technology executive, independent board director, and social entrepreneur with over three decades of experience at the intersection of global business, digital innovation, and societal impact.
Best known for his 25-year career with Microsoft, Ali served as a Corporate Vice President and led the company’s global Digital Transformation Partnerships Organisation. In this role, he helped steer Microsoft’s strategic engagement with commercial enterprises and governments around the world, guiding large-scale digital transformation projects, data centre geo-expansion, and partnerships with high-growth startups and unicorns. A core member of Microsoft’s global sales, marketing and operations leadership team, Ali previously led Microsoft’s Middle East & Africa business for over a decade, shaping the region’s digital landscape.
Today, Ali pursues a diverse portfolio of non-executive board roles and strategic advisory work. He serves on the boards of globally respected organisations, including Valentino (Italy), Balmain (France), Beymen (Turkey), eXtra (Saudi Arabia), the Central Bank of Egypt, and the American University in Cairo, where he also sits on the School of Business Dean’s Advisory Board.
A passionate advocate for youth empowerment and inclusive digital access, Ali is the founder of MasrDotBokra, a Cairo-based NGO focused on youth and skills development. The organisation also runs an annual film festival that showcases emerging voices in filmmaking.
A dual citizen of Egypt and Canada, Ali splits his time between the UAE, Egypt, and Turkey. He is the proud father of two sons, a devoted (if long-suffering) Manchester United supporter, and an avid follower of business, political, arts, fashion, and sports commentary.
